The Model-Context Protocol (MCP) solves precisely this issue: as an open standard, it seamlessly connects AI agents with heterogeneous systems such as self-contained systems, microservices, or distributed data sources – essentially USB-C for AI. MCP makes integration feasible, especially for teams operating within complex, distributed system landscapes. We’ll explore practical examples of how MCP equips AI agents with the tools they need to operate effectively in the real world.
